Social Responsibility

Cheema’s Travel started because I , Rani Cheema, wanted to build schools in remote places around the world. Since starting Cheema’s Travel we’ve now raised funds for Teens Of Color Abroad, #FREEPABLOGARCIA, Black Lives Matter, and ACLU.

When you work with Cheema’s Travel you’re supporting these non-profits and fundraisers. 1% of our monthly earnings goes to 1-2 different organizations each month.

#freepablogarcia Pablo Garcia at Clinton Correctional Facility

wrongfully convicted of a crime, Pablo sits in prison for 12 years even after DNA tests were debunked

#FREEPABLOGARCIA

Pablo Garcia faces 25 years to life, accused of a crime he didn’t commit. DNA tests that originally said he was at the scene of the crime, have in fact been debunked. 10+ years later, he is still in prison and his family doesn’t know why.

Pablo was accused by another suspect who received gratuities for naming someone else, anyone else. Then an experimental DNA test was used on his and thousands of other cases sent him and others to prison. These tests were later debunked, but only a handful of convicted people were released. Thousands, including Pablo, sit in prison for a crime they didn’t commit.

Want to dive deeper or donate? Continue reading and donate by visiting www.FreePabloGarcia.org

Hired a specific lawyer whose specialty is FST cases. She has read Pablo's case, and is confidant she can help. We need to keep her on, please donate.

www.freepablogarcia.org is funded by Cheema’s Travel so that all donations go directly towards Mr. Garcia’s legal fees.

Because they deserve the world too

Teens of color abroad
(TOCA)

TOCA’s mission is to cultivate the next generation of globally conscious youth of color through full language immersion study abroad experiences.

At Teens of Color Abroad, we (Rani Cheema is on the advisory board) understand and emphasize the importance of learning another language. It is too often that students spend years of formally studying a second language in school, and then, are unable to maintain a conversation in that language. We recognize that classroom study provides students with a strong foundation for language learning, but in order to achieve fluency, learners must be fully immersed. And for those who study Spanish in school — in a nation with the second largest Spanish-speaking population — it can still be challenging to become fluent.

We understand that providing youth with intensive language training will grant them access to the world at large.

We also see that students of color, especially Black/African-American students, are highly underrepresented in college study abroad experiences. Teens of Color Abroad aims to confront this racial disparity earlier by creating engaging, international study opportunities for high school students that inspire them to continue this journey while in college.

A 15 year old kid from Northern Uganda, who was born deaf & inspired Cheema’s Travel

Patrick

Patrick, a 15 year old kid from Northern Uganda, who was born deaf. Unable to communicate with his family or attend school and unable to make friends, his father sent him to work in the fields, he was trapped in his own mind without an outlet.

A man from a near by village started teaching classes for deaf villagers and Patrick was one of those students. After 15 years of being trapped in his own head, he finally had a signed name that he could recognize.

I knew that I needed to build a business where I would make people happy and make their dreams come true. I'm able to do this for my clients and I hope to be able to do this for people like Patrick.

Cheema’s Travel aims to open schools for the deaf in remote parts of the world for not just the deaf students but for their families and I hope they can bring what they have learned to others.

Thank you for telling your story, Patrick! We will do our best.

If you have ideas or know people who can help us manifest this dream, please let us know at cheema@tzell.com. Patrick’s School is an even bigger project and we look forward to one day opening this school in Africa or Central Asia.

We return to Uganda for a special message from profoundly deaf Patrick Otema.
